From the Blues and Back marked Fred Wesley’s first new release in over a decade in 2023, a musical journey between blues, jazz, and funk, shaped by his unmistakable trombone sound.

The cover, created by Philipp Zünd , is based on a hand-drawn illustration: a stylised trombone begins at the mouthpiece on the front, winds its way through the entire gatefold, and closes the circle again on the title page. This continuous line playfully traces Fred Wesley’s life path, which began alongside a blues-filled “juke joint” and went on to shape his musical journey.

The music was recorded analog and released on LoEnd Records for those who love horns, appreciate blues and funk, and are drawn to design with soul.
