Generative.

Expressive.

Collective.

Wallrap Collective in resonance with Demo Tape Session #5

Young people with collective consciousness.

When you encounter the three young musicians of Wallrap Collective for the first time — either live or in a conversation — you immediately sense that nothing about them is artificial or contrived. And yet everything about them is infused with a conscious attitude, openness, intuition, and a strong belief in collaboration.

At the time of the session, they are between 17 and 19 years old. They come from Bavaria. They write music that feels like a collective stream of consciousness – somewhere between improvised poetry, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary chamber music, and a glimpse of the future.

Nominated for the fifth Demo Tape Session, they performed at LITTLE BIG BEAT STUDIOS — recorded on analog tape and music cassette — live in front of an audience. The result was a vibrant, raw, incredibly mature session.

But that was just the beginning.

Between studio and print shop.

On the day of the recording session, we met in my letterpress studio in the basement of Gutenberg Press in Liechtenstein. The idea was to design an analog poster with them that would not only document the concert, but also capture the essence of their attitude as an artist collective.

It was a morning full of open discussions, paper samples, compositional experiments, and profound associations. We discussed generative music, Brian Eno, layering tracks, and consciously leaving things open. We explored music as a space, as a process, as something that emerges when one lets go of control to a certain extent.

The Tape Face Poster No. 5 was inspired by the idea of depicting the three boys' heads as a jungle or three plants — as a symbol of growth and diversity.

Hand-drawn, woodcut-lasered, manually printed in two colors – the Tape Face poster for Wallrap Collective was created using an analog process involving sketches, wood and lead type. The video shows how the original was created: analog inspiration, wood, color, and a lot of emotion.

Soundtrack: Wallrap Collective, "Forest Jam"

The Tape Face Poster: Three words, three faces

Three words that ended up on the letterpress poster were chosen through a collective process. They go beyond just describing the band.

EXPRESSION: because their music is not meant to please, but to express.

GENERATION: because they embody a new artistic attitude the rest of us often underestimate.

COLLECTIVE: because none of it is solo — not the sound, not the spirit.

Each letter was set by hand, printed on fine paper, using old wooden type. Every pore is filled with the vibration of this morning. A session without musical instruments, but with printing ink.

The poster, finalized together on that morning, was just as generative a structure as their music: Three words. Countless interpretations.

Creation in the moment – between stage, band, and consciousness

The Demo Tape Sessions are not only a talent contest — they are a stage for artists who have the courage and skillto show their true selves at that decisive moment:

Live.

In front of an audience.

On analog magnetic tape.

Whether you are a newcomer or an experienced performer, what counts is not the perfect take, but a genuine glimpse into your musical soul.

Genau das berührt mich an diesem Format.

Because it connects everything I love:

Working with people – in Life Design Coachings, creative workshops and design processes – in my role as an independent creative director and project manager at LITTLE BIG BEAT STUDIOS..

With Season 1 – from Ash Radford, Teneia Sanders, IMP DA DIMP, Junipa Gold to the finale with Wallrap Collective — we not only got to support five acts on their journey.

Together, we opened up spaces where art, courage, and letting go became something real.

We say thanks to Wallrap Collective for being so open, deep, and fun — and to everyone who makes this platform happen:

VP Bank AG, Sennheiser, RTM Industries, the Little Big Beat LBB Association – and anyone who shares our belief in resonance.

And that's what counts.
